Application packets for the position of Probationary Patrol Officer with the Portage Police Department will be available from Monday January 22nd, 2024, through Friday March 15th,2024 at 3:00pm. All applications must be completed and returned to the
Portage Police Department no later than 3:00 pm on Friday March 29th, 2024. Those interested in applying may pick up an application packet at the Portage Police Department at 6260 Central Ave. All applicants must meet the following requirements:
Must be a US citizen.
Must be 21 years of age but not older than 40 years of age by date of hire.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
No felony or domestic battery convictions.
Must have weight in proportion to height.
Must pass a written examination, physical standards test, medical examination, drug screen, and psychological examination.
Must submit to a polygraph or voice stress analysis examination.
Must submit to a background investigation.
Must submit to an oral interview.
Must successfully complete basic instruction at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.
The 2024 salary for a Probationary Officer (without experience) is $60,079.49
After three years of service the salary increases to $68,453.31
Probationary Officer (with experience) is $68,453.31.
