PORTAGE — An Israeli company announced plans to bring its first U.S. plant to Portage.

MCP USA Inc. will locate in a building at AmeriPlex at the Port business park and bring more than 45 jobs to the community.

The City Council on Tuesday approved a five-year personal property tax abatement on equipment for the company.

Economic Development Director Andy Maletta said the city has been in negotiations with the company, which makes oven-ready molded plastic food trays primarily for the airline industry, since February.

According to the tax abatement application filed with the city, MCP's goal is to have 47 to 50 employees as soon as the company is at full capacity. Wages will range from $23 to $28 per hour. Ten salaried employees will earn an average annual salary of $60,000.

The U.S. is the largest of the company's markets, according to the documents. Adding the Portage plant will better enable the parent company MCP Ltd. to serve its U.S. market.

Maletta said the company plans on having its operations up and running sometime in the spring.
