Snow Plowing

The city has approximately 150 miles of roadways and each truck is assigned to a designated area. Our number one priority is main roads, which are considered streets mostly used to travel to schools, grocery stores, gas stations, doctors offices and hospitals. Main roads are plowed and salted first for this reason. Once the main roads are acceptable for safe travel, drivers will move on to subdivisions and secondary streets. Clearing cul-de-sacs is the most time-consuming task for our plow drivers. For this reason they are cleared after primary and secondary roads.

After 2 inches of snowfall parking on the street is in violation of city ordinance. Following this rule will speed up snow plowing and help to avoid buried cars and property damage. We also ask that residents refrain from shoveling snow into the streets, which creates a road hazard. All roads are typically cleared within 16 to 24 hours after the end of a snow event as long as there are no equipment failures and precipitation subsides. Thanks for helping to keep our roads safe.
